TAHNG SOO DO

¡¡
TECHNIQUES:
Koguryo Tahng Soo Do is a hard
martial arts style based on linear striking techniques. With equal emphasis on
hand and kick techniques, Tahng Soo Do provides a balanced and effective method
of self-defense. The theory of Tahng Soo Do techniques is direct and
accessible, allowing for students to easily pick up on not just proper form but
also to acquire a working knowledge of why a technique works.
TRAINING:
Tahng Soo Do training places a high
priority on forms (Hyoung in Korean), the mastery of basics, and on
improving your physique. Hyung are prearranged sequences designed to simulate
combat and to provide students with an opportunity to connect techniques. There
are many forms in Tahng Soo Do. All Tahng Soo Do techniques are derived from the
Hyung that students practice, making the sequences into more than just a
coordinated set of movements. It is the implementation of all techniques,
from basic to advanced, that Tahng Soo Do ensures a it's practitioners are fully capable of utilizing the entire arsenal of techniques at their
disposal for their self-defense. Tahng Soo Do practice also emphasizes cardio
vascular training, flexibility training, and increased total body awareness and
control.
¡¡
Tahng Soo Do also includes training
in weapons. There are four weapons styles taught at Koguryo Martial Arts
Academy that are specific to Tahng Soo Do; Tonfa, Sai, Sang Cheol Bong (Nunchuku),
and Staff.

KUM MOO KWON HAP KI DO

¡¡
¡¡
¡¡
Kum Moo Kwon style is
unique among the many varieties of Hap Ki Do, blending both circular movements
to create power and diffuse an opponent’s attacks and linear strikes to maximize
a practitioner’s capacity to deliver damage. Kum Moo Kwon Hap Ki Do emphasizes
the importance of joint manipulation, fighting ability, proper kicking, and
controlled falling method. Kum Moo Kwon self defense skills are based on
acquiring a mastery of a limited number of techniques that can in turn be
applied over infinite possible scenarios.

TRAINING:
The defining
characteristics of Kum Moo Kwon training are the focus on the proper understanding
of theory, effective kicking technique, and free fighting ability. Kum Moo Kwon
students must acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the human body, including the
location of vital points and skeletal structure, in order to effectively execute
techniques. This knowledge applies to how the student uses their own body and
exploits the weaknesses of an opponent. Kum Moo Kwon kicking theory is superior
to most Hap Ki Do styles. Accordingly, a high priority is placed on students
mastering the fine points of Kum Moo Kwon kicking style. Free fighting is a
central focus of Kum Moo Kwon training. Students are encouraged (but not
required) to engage in controlled full contact sparring in order to effectively
practice and apply the skills they learn in standard training.
Kum Moo Kwon training also includes
weapons skills. The weapons styles taught in Kum Moo Kwon Hap Ki Do are Nunchuks,
Staff, Spear, Sword, Fan, and Cane.
