KUM MOO KWON HAP KI DO

Kum Moo Kwon style is unique among the many varieties of Hap Ki Do, blending both circular movements to create power and diffuse an opponent’s attacks and linear strikes to maximize a practitioner’s capacity to deliver damage.  Kum Moo Kwon Hap Ki Do emphasizes the importance of joint manipulation, fighting ability, proper kicking, and controlled falling method.  Kum Moo Kwon self defense skills are based on acquiring a mastery of a limited number of techniques that can in turn be applied over infinite possible scenarios.

TRAINING:

The defining characteristics of Kum Moo Kwon training are the focus on the proper understanding of theory, effective kicking technique, and free fighting ability.  Kum Moo Kwon students will acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the human body, including the location of vital points and skeletal structure, as they learn to effectively execute techniques.  This knowledge applies to both how the student uses their own body and exploits the weaknesses of an opponent.  Kum Moo Kwon kicking theory is superior to most Hap Ki Do styles.  Accordingly, a high priority is placed on students mastering the fine points of Kum Moo Kwon kicking style.  Free fighting is a central focus of Kum Moo Kwon training.  Students are encouraged to engage in controlled full contact sparring in order to effectively practice and apply the skills they learn in standard training.

WEAPONS

Our unique weapons curriculum is based on the traditional Martial arts weapons styles associated with KARATE; however, the techniques and applications are rooted in the principles and theories of Soo Ho Ji Moo.  Starting with Ssang Jeol Gon (Nunchaku) and progressing through a structured 5 part curriculum including Staff, Tonfa, Sai, and Kama, students will learn new techniques as well as how to incorporate the empty hand skills they have learned into applications with their weapons.  Weapons training at KMA is an optional and supplementary curriculum offered to any and all students who have an interest in developing a wider understanding of their technique.

TRAINING:

Our weapons program is taught through a system of Basic Skills and Forms.  Students learn the fundamental techniques and applications of their weapons, then put these skills into their forms and free flow technique practice.  Also, students may engage in Padded Weapon Sparring to practice their techniques.

KOGURYO TANG SOO DO

Koguryo Tang Soo Do was developed by Grand Master Lee Gee Hwoon using the traditional Tang Soo Do forms as a template for instruction in the basics of Soo Ho Ji Moo.  In addition, Koguryo Tang Soo Do has a complete system of unique forms created by Grand Master Lee to further this development and provide some more advanced elements that are not present in the forms series used in Moo Duk Kwon Tang Soo Do.  The result is an accessible and effective method of training for beginners that contains higher level applications to challenge even the advanced practitioner.

 TRAINING:

Tang Soo Do places a high priority on training in forms (Hyoung in Korean), the mastery of basics, and on improving your overall physical health.  Hyoung are prearranged sequences of techniques designed to simulate combat and to provide students with an opportunity to drill their skills to develop them to a point of becoming “second nature”.  Tang Soo Do practice also emphasizes cardio vascular training, flexibility training, and increased total body awareness and control.

Tahng Soo Do also includes training in weapons.  There are four weapons styles taught at Koguryo Martial Arts Academy that are specific to Tahng Soo Do; Tonfa, Sai, Sang Cheol Bong (Nunchuku), and Staff.
